I Stopped Listening to Tony Robbins Because…

Tony Robbins is an entrepreneur, investor, motivational teacher, life coach, humanitarian, and a New York Times #1 Best-Selling Author. He’s so popular, Netflix created a documentary about him in 2016.
He’s known for his energy that can light up a room. And an innate ability to change lives. But Tony Robbins is much more than a circus attraction. In this article, we will cover some things you probably didn’t know about the man. Starting with his name.
Who is Tony Robbins?
Tony Robbins was born on February 29, 1960, as Anthony Jay Mahavoric in North Hollywood California. At 12, his mother remarried Jim Robbins who legally adopted him. His surname was then changed from Mahavoric to Robbins.
He started his career in 1977. Since then, he’s co-hosted popular shows like Oprah Winfrey’s, invested in professional sports franchises, held group workshops around the world that have helped tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people, and on an individual basis has helped several high-profile celebrities.
Additionally, he’s a philanthropist with his businesses Feeding America and The Tony Robbins Foundation.
Why is he famous (what does he teach)?
According to Mind is the Master’s article Tony Robbins: why is he so popular and loved? “Tony Robbins is so popular because of how many lives he has changed. His life coaching method is like no other and has helped thousands of people change their lives by teaching them how to transform it.”
If you think about it, that’s why the prosperity gospel is so popular too. People want to believe that they can be healthy and wealthy. The difference between Tony Robbins and the prosperity gospel preachers is that he doesn’t use God as his meal ticket. Because he doesn’t believe in God. At least not the God of the Bible.
I stopped listening to him because…
First off, I tried watching some of his interviews and YouTube videos. However, I couldn’t listen very long before turning each one off. He curses way too much. For me, that’s reason enough to stop listening to him.
However, because of what people have said about him, including fellow Christians, I continued to try. Next, I tried reading his written work.
Some years ago, I purchased one of his books. While reading it, I came across a passage where he referred to God as a woman. I read a few more sentences to understand if he meant that, or if it was a joke. It wasn’t a joke.
After reading that, I closed the book and got rid of it. I haven’t read any of his stuff or listened to any of his messages since.
While preparing to write this article, I did some searching to find out if he still believes that. According to the article 20 Things You Didn’t Know About Tony Robbins by Money Inc. magazine, he does. Here’s an excerpt from that article.
“12. He believes in God herself:
“Another incantation that Tony Robbins claims to love is ‘God’s wealth is circulating in my life, it’s what flows to me, an avalanche of abundance. All my needs, desires, and goals are met instantaneously, by infinite intelligence — where I’m one with God and God is everything’ which he’d shout at the top of his lungs while jogging. Even though he says these incantations to gain a certain certainty, he believes that God, in her infinite wisdom, gave all humans a second need which is the craving for variety and uncertainty, and is the reason that we love surprises as much as we do.”
Did you catch that? “Her infinite wisdom.” He sees God as a woman.
The Bible clearly states that the members of the Holy Trinity are all males. God the Father (masculine), God the Son (masculine), and God the Holy Spirit (not specified in the name – but the Bible clarifies that). As a Christian, I choose not to take advice from someone who has that view of God and the Bible. That means everything he does comes from that vantage point.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” – John 14:16-17 NIV
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”- John 14:26 NIV
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” – John 16:13 NIV
Personally, I’d rather take advice from someone with a biblical worldview rather than a secular worldview.
