Why Write About Christianity and Satan?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
In this article, I’m referring to the same entity whether I refer to him as Lucifer, the devil, the evil one, the great deceiver, the father of lies, or Satan. And those aren’t the only names or titles he’s known by.
Before I wrote the past number of articles on the topic of Christianity and Satan, or more specifically Satan’s attack on Christianity, I realized that many “Christian” churches have been seduced by Satan.
Not just in their messaging. But the music they play as well.
I’m not one of those false teachers that says, “the Lord spoke to me and said…” I didn’t hear an audible voice. But He has given me discernment to know what is and isn’t from God. Just as He’s given all who believe in Him.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” – John 10:27
Because He is not a God of confusion, I knew He would show me the way.
“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints.” – 1 Corinthians 14:33
No need to listen to Satan. Who is the great deceiver and the father of lies.
“For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” – John 8:44
Satan’s been confusing and lying to people for a long time. He confused Eve, in Genesis 3, and she disobeyed God. That was the catalyst for sin to entered into the world. And Satan continues to deceive the lost today (even the lost in the church).
Just because a person goes to church and claims to be a Christian doesn’t mean they’re saved.
Which leads us to the following question.
Is Satan real?
Society would have us believe that Satan is a fictitious character represented as a red man with black horns and a pitchfork. Often times surrounded by fire. Well, that part is probably true. At least it will be.
In reality, before his fall, Lucifer was a beautiful angel (Ezekial 28:13-19). It was his pride that was his demise.
Did you know that more people believe in God than the devil or hell?
The following are the percentage of Americans that believe the following exist.
- 74% – God
- 69% – Angels
- 67% – Heaven
- 59% – Hell
- 58% – Satan
According to a Gallup poll, 74% of American’s believe in God or a god. While only 58% believe in Satan.
Of those who profess to be a Christian, and attend church at least once a week, only 94% actually believe in God.
That 94% is specific to Protestant Christians, not Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, etc. Which begs the question, what do the other 6% believe?
While 94% believe in God, in another Gallup poll, merely 68% of regular attenders and 22% of non-religious people believe in the devil.
The devil is a very real being. Yet more Americans believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.
In a BuzzFeed poll, 43% of Americans said they believe in Santa Claus. And according to Dentistry Today, 79% of American parents continue to spread the lie of the Tooth Fairy.
79% of American parents continue to spread the lie of the Tooth Fairy. Yet only 22% of non-religious people know the truth about the devil.
Yes, Satan is real. And that’s why I’ve been writing about his influence on the church.
The destruction in the world today isn’t all because of “free will.” We must always remember that Satan is still active in it.
Many Christians don’t know the truth
Perhaps the reason why many Christians don’t know the truth is because they don’t read their Bible. Even worse to think that only 68% of those who attend church services on a regular basis believe the devil exists.
Why do so many Christians not know or believe the truth?
I think the reason why a large percentage of “believers” don’t know more about Satan is because they’re not reading the Bible for themselves.
Additionally, their pastors aren’t teaching them all of the truths of the Bible. Many of them cherry-pick passages out of the Bible (and often times out of context). Perhaps they prefer teaching on riches over repentance.
What is the truth?
There is only one truth and that’s Jesus Christ.
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” – John 14:6
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:1-5
And His Word tells us all about the devil. Consider these passages: Satan and Darkness.
Back in 2021, Pew Research found that a dwindling 40% of Americans identified as Evangelical Protestant Christians.
Note that they mistakenly included United Methodist in that percentage. I say mistakenly because they teach a theology that runs contrary to the Bible.
According to a 2022 poll, a lowly 20% of all Americans attend either a church or a synagogue on a weekly basis. And according to another Pew Research poll, 58% of those claiming to be Evangelical Protestants attend church on a weekly basis.
Unfortunately, even that number is probably exaggerated. That’s because the vast majority of Pentecostals, Word of Faith, New Apostolic Reformation, Methodists, and other heretical/apostate churches will be grouped into that category.
Back to the 2021 Pew Research poll. Of the 40% that identify as Evangelical Protestant Christians, only 63% of them read their Bible’s at least once a week.
Which makes sense, if 58% attend church on a weekly basis. That’s where they’re reading their Bibles. And with so many pastors teaching half-truths, most of those in attendance probably don’t truly understand what the Bible actually says.
It’s no wonder why people, even self-professed Christians, don’t know about or believe in the devil. Because they don’t know the truth.
God’s Word says it and we should believe it. If only more would read it for themselves.
“To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” – John 8:31-32
What’s God’s will?
Going back to the Proverbs at the beginning. You might be asking yourself, what is God’s will? Some might even ask, “what’s my purpose in life?” For a believer, they’re one in the same.
“It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.” – 1 Peter 2:15-16
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” – Ephesians 2:8-10
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” – Romans 12:1-2
“God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor— not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8
“For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.” – John 6:40
Lean on God
Instead of yourself or other humans, lean on Him for guidance and understanding.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
You can’t do it on your own. None of us can. God gave us every ability we have. Whether we acknowledge Him as Lord or not.
“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your ancestors, as it is today.” – Deuteronomy 8:17-18
What about non-believers?
Everyone will kneel before God on their judgment day. Your question should be, “will their name be in the Lamb’s book of life?” If not, then the Bible spells out exactly what will happen to them.
“And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.” – Revelation 20:15
“But God shows His anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.” – Romans 1:18
“Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:9-11
Do you know the truth?
If you die today, do you know where you will go for all eternity? Your physical body is only temporary. When it ceases to exist, it will be buried or burned. But your soul is eternal. Will you spend eternity in the presence of God or separated from Him?
Regardless of what anyone might say, the Bible tells us that you can’t make the choice after you die. Neither can anyone else make it for you. It’s a choice that you alone must make.
So, what will it be?
